Trend #1: Health Foods

As shared in the infographic, consumers want to see healthy food options in environmentally-friendly packaging. Additionally, customers want to see healthy snacks that are easy to consume while on-the-go. At the looks of it, organic food sales keep on increasing—organic foods hit a new sales record of $43.3 billion in 2015. This number was an eleven-percent boost from the previous year! Furthermore, vegan and vegetarian food options continue to rise. Vegan food products are up by 257 percent and vegetarian food products are up by 25 percent. Trend #3: On-The-Go Packaging

Not everyone has the time to make healthy snacks from scratch on a regular basis. However, consumers don’t want to sacrifice their health or the environment for the convenience of an unhealthy snack food. So, what could be the solution to this? Healthy snack foods that are delivered in recyclable packaging! As mentioned in the infographic, healthy snack foods are expected to grow by three percent.

According to a packaging survey and a 2015 infographic created by Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), the top three attributes of product packaging includes easy storage (66 percent), the ability to reseal (65 percent), and easy opening (60 percent).

Interestingly, 60 percent of consumers surveyed say that they would be willing to spend more money on flexible packaging options. Twelve percent of consumers would spend more money on easy-to-open packaging that is better for the environment, while thirteen percent would be willing to spend more on easy-to-open packaging that also helped to extend the product’s shelf life. Fourteen percent of consumers surveyed would spend more money on packaging that is easy to reseal.
